What are Industrial Fans?

Industrial fans are machines that provide and accommodate a large flow of air or gas to various parts of a process, system, or other structure.

They are commonly used for air or gas extraction or cooling in industry. This is achieved by rotating several blades, connected to a hub and shaft and driven by a motor or turbine.

There are several types of industrial fans, including centrifugal fans, axial fans, and mixed flow fans. Centrifugal fans use a centrifugal force to move air, while axial fans use an axial force. Mixed flow fans are a combination of both.

Industrial fans can be powered by various types of motors, including electric motors, gas turbine engines, and steam turbine engines. The size and power of the fan motor will depend on the size of the fan and the amount of air that needs to be moved.

Industrial fans are also can be used for drying , heating, exhausting, cooling, ventilation and many more usages based on requirement.

There are also several factors that need to be considered when selecting an industrial fan, including the fan’s size and flow rate, the type of motor, the fan’s design and construction, and the specific application for which the fan will be used.

It is important to ensure that the industrial fan is installed and maintained properly in order to ensure its optimal performance and longevity. This includes regular cleaning and maintenance of the fan blades, as well as ensuring that the fan is properly balanced.

Categories of Industrial Fans

Generally, most industrial fans can be categorised into one of four fundamental types, which are named in relation to the direction of flow through the impeller:

Axial Flow Fans

Draw air and blow it forward, which moves along the fan’s axis. There would be no centrifugal effect on the generated airflow.

Axial flow fans, also known as propeller fans, are a type of industrial fan that use an axial force to move air. They consist of a hub with several blades radiating outwards, which rotate around a central axis. The blades of an axial flow fan are typically shaped like an airfoil, similar to the blades of a propeller, which allows them to efficiently move a large volume of air.

Centrifugal Fans

Extract air at right angles to the fan’s intake and spin it outwards to the fan’s outlet using deflection and centrifugal force.

Centrifugal fans, also known as blowers or air movers, are devices that use a rotating impeller to move air or other gases in a circular motion. The impeller is typically driven by an electric motor and spins at high speeds, creating a pressure differential that causes air to move from the inlet to the outlet of the fan.

The speed of the impeller and the design of the fan housing determine the volume and pressure of the air that the fan can move.

Mixed Flow Fans

Mixed flow fans fall somewhere between centrifugal and axial fans in terms of pressure development and compactness.
