What are Water Cooled Heat Exchangers?
Water-cooled heat exchangers are used to cool and or condense process streams with water as the cooling medium.
Intercoolers
An Intercooler is a heat exchanger that cools gas after compression by eliminating heat generated by an air compression unit. Hot air flows over a network of cooling tubes fitted with cooling fins. Water is used as a cooling medium. An after-cooler is a heat exchanger that removes compression-generated heat from compressed air to cool the air sufficiently before it enters a dryer or before it is used in air-operated equipment and processes.
Inter Coolers and After Coolers are used in air compression machinery. When air is compressed, heat is generated. On compressors, the function of inter-and after coolers is to remove heat from the compressed air in certain stages of compression to reduce the air volume and make the air more compressible by means of cooling.
How do Tube & Shell Oil Coolers work?
The function of the oil coolers on rotating machinery is to ensure that the oil temperature leaving the bearings is below the permitted limit by removing the heat absorbed by the oil within the rotating equipment and the bearings. Its purpose is to cool the oil passing through the coils or tube bundles, thus improving the rotating equipment’s lifespan.
An Oil Cooler – has a series of tubes enclosed inside a shell. Hot oil flows over the tube in the shell cooler. Water flows inside the tubes and removes the heat from the oil.
