Molefe D. Makhene

Managing Director

Molefe is a Non-Executive Chairman of Makhene Mining & Resources Investment Group (Pty) Ltd.

He holds a B. Business Studies; (Hons) in Finance, Masters in Commerce, United States-South Africa Leadership Development Programme and Executive Development Programme in Mining.

He has spent a significant part of his career in Project Finance, Strategic Business Development, Investment Banking, and Commercial and Corporate Banking. He is the Managing Director at Mann-Makhene Machinery Services (Pty) Ltd.

Deon Botha

Operations Manager

Deon Botha joined Mann-Makhene Machinery Services Pty Ltd in 2018 and currently serves as the Operations Manager. Deon manages the company’s planning, workshop, and site departments.

Before joining Mann-Makhene Machinery Services, Deon was an Engineering Manager at Anglo Platinum for eleven years, managing the entire Engineering Discipline. His responsibilities included planning, maintenance, budget setting and control and all capital projects.

In addition, Deon worked for AngloGold for sixteen years and Samancor Chrome for five years. He was responsible for efficiently managing the Engineering Services Department, which included compressors, refrigeration, main pumping systems and water turbines. He was also responsible for resource planning, legal compliance, and efficiency of operations.

Deon Botha obtained a Government Certificate of Competence in Electrical & Mechanical Engineering at the Department of Labour in 1988.

 

Pieter van Heerden

Workshop Manager

Pieter van Heerden joined Mann-Makhene Machinery Services Pty Ltd in 2021 and currently serves as the Workshop Manager. Pieter manages all operational aspects of the Workshop, including but not limited to workshop coordination, performance management, SHEQ management, quality management, facilities management, fleet management, development of workshop staff, and close interaction with all other departments within the organisation.  

Before joining Mann-Makhene Machinery Services, Pieter was an Operations Manager at CBI Electric: African Cables for ten years, responsible for maintenance management, production management, quality control, continuous improvement, and operations planning.

In addition, Pieter worked for Pragma Africa for five years, responsible for Asset Care Engineering. His responsibilities included putting strategies in place for the better upkeep and reliability of clients’ physical assets.

Pieter obtained a (BTMEE) Mechanical Engineering Degree at the University of South Africa in 2005.

Dawie Smit

Site Manager

Dawie Smit joined Mann-Makhene Machinery Services Pty Ltd in 2001 and is currently the Site Manager. Dawie manages all site employees and field services, including but not limited to inspections, major and minor overhauls, and alignment on all types of turbo compressors, including turbines.

Before joining Mann-Makhene Machinery Services, Dawie was a Senior Machinery Inspector at Anglo American (AngloGold) for eighteen years, responsible for training, inspection, and repairing compressors. In addition, Dawie worked for Sentraal Wes Co-Operative for six years, where he was a Fitter & Turner and his responsibilities included erecting and maintenance on silos.

Dawie obtained an N6 National Diploma at the Vuselela TVET College in 1994.

Corné Goosen

Administration Manager

Corné Goosen joined Mann-Makhene Machinery Services in 2008 and is currently the Office Manager and controller for Finance, HR, and IT. Corné oversees a wide range of functions, including accounts payable/receivable, financial reporting and accounting, budgeting, taxation, sponsored projects, cost analysis, and performance management.

Before joining Mann-Makhene Machinery Services, Corné was an Office Manager at a logistics company for eight years. She was responsible for financial management across various business sectors, including budgeting, financial management and staffing. In addition, Corné worked eight years for Profin Hardware CC, where she started her career as a Computer Sales and Bookkeeping Clerk and was later promoted to Client Services Manager.

Corné obtained a Diploma in Finance, Computerised Bookkeeping and Office Management at Sedibeng TVET College in 1992.

Pieter Strauss

Planning Manager

Pieter Strauss joined Mann-Makhene Machinery Services Pty Ltd in 2010 and is currently the Contracts Manager. Pieter manages the Contracts Department and ensures contracts are executed and invoiced on completion.

Before joining Mann-Makhene Machinery Services, Pieter was a Maintenance Manager at Suprachem for fourteen years, responsible for the overall maintenance of the mechanical plant. His responsibilities included maintenance, capital projects, process improvement, and all mechanical-related work within the plant, including coolers and pumps.

In addition, Pieter worked for thirteen years at Arcelor Mittal, responsible for air, gas, and steam maintenance. His responsibilities included compressor and boiler maintenance, air gas, steam pipelines and valves.

Pieter obtained a Red Seal trade certificate as Fitter and Turner at the Olifantsfontein Training Centre in 1987.
